Thanks a bunch guys, I think I have everything I need to get started now, except one last question. What did you guys do about the plastic pieces at the end of each side of the saya. It would scatch if you sanded them, did you just cover them with tape and sand carefully? or can you pop them off som...

Customizing a PPK

hey guys, I've had my PPK for a while now and I would like a project for over my christmas break, so I think I'm going to try my hand at playing with saya colors. Never having done this before, I have a couple of specific questions and then any and all advice is welcome. First off, do I need to sand...

I believe the laws in my state (us) are no blades longer then 3 inches and no blade that opens using a spring or gravity. I think just because it can be opened with one hand quickly, though most legal ones dont take much longer to open.

Yes. with the tsuka on the right, once grabbed the sword is immidiately ready to be drawn. With the tsuka on the right the sword could not be grabbed and drawn quickly, it would have the be turned around in your hand. So if the tsuka is on the right it symbolizes the house being at war.

That seems like a good price to me. I didn't see anywhere how much it weighs though. If you just want to use it for aerobics and combinations and the like the weight doesnt matter as much. But for practicing individual strikes they can be knocked over, some pretty easily.

SS = break CS = can break on a bad cut. I remember seeing a video somewhere of a guy banging a SS sword on a table and it snapped in half and stabbed him...what an idiot. As you said in your post SS is good for smaller blades like knives, but its not strong enough to be used on any long blades. I ha...

the BLK does have a (saya) scabbard. It looks to me like it just has some better fittings, though having not handled either hopefully someone can comment better on the blades, though I don't know how much of a difference $30 can make in blade quality.
