Re: got a tamahagane sword before ban

I have 2 comments, that I would quite like to be proven wrong about, but I don't think I will. 1) This guy has been full of crap from his first post on this forum.........so did he spend 1K on a sword like this? No. 2) If you speak to anyone that's practiced Iaido for more than a couple of weeks, th...

Re: New Consultation to ban all swords

Not to pee on anyones fire, but Musashi himself teaches us in his Book of Five Rings, and I quote: "A warrior should be comfortable not only with the sword, but also with the brush. He should not only be able to take life, but he must be able to create beauty as well. Even those warriors who are no...

Re: New Consultation to ban all swords

Yep.....that absolutely proves conclusively that you are a warrior.....a slightly overweight guy swinging swords that are made of tinfoil at a re-enactment fair showing obviously no heed to posture or technique.....I think you just proved my point for me. Man if you ever open a Dojo, let me know and...

Re: New Consultation to ban all swords

I didn't say you were a fake. That would mean you could control your delusions. I said you were a fantasist, which is in fact much worse. Now off you go to study the path of the warrior by swinging your LOTR replica around your back garden, and fall back on your years of instructing Iaido in the doj...

Re: New Consultation to ban all swords

I can't believe you said you consider yourself to be a good 'warrior.' That is the most absurd thing I've ever heard in my life. In my opinion the only people that can make that claim are in the military, or actually have to 'complete with people' on a regular basis. If you know what I mean.Swinging...

Re: got a tamahagane sword before ban

Man those are nice blades. I've seen them used a couple of times and they are definately fit for purpose. On a personal note though I've never understand though why anyone would go out and spend 1,000.00 pounds on one of those swords, when you could save for a couple more years (which is how long it...

Re: New Consultation to ban all swords

Simon, no one took offense. It's nice to find someone so passionate about blades, sword arts and swords in general, and also someone that's willing to actually get out there and lobby. I love swords, and I love martial arts. My issue is with people that are misrepresenting themselves. If a love of c...

Re: New Consultation to ban all swords

Yeah no one called casual collectors Numpty's. The Numpty comment was aimed at people that are in fact casual collectors, but who are claiming they are martial artists. Everyone on this forum is 100% behind casual collectors, and everyone 100% agrees that the innocent casual collector should be allo...

Re: New Consultation to ban all swords

Loggin, the bar to learning it is not being raised, it's in fact exactly the same as it always was........There is -no- difference. You can start Iaido with a bokken and some loose fitting clothing. You can still buy an Iaito from anywhere in the world, and you can still buy a live sword from anywhe...

Re: New Consultation to ban all swords

Indeed. The simple fact is, as a beginner in Iaido the sword ban isn't going to affect you unless you are a complete 'numpy' (great word by the way) and decide to get a shinken after about 2 weeks because it makes you feel more like a Samurai. The fact is, a Bokken is fine for the first couple of mo...

Re: New Consultation to ban all swords

Or maybe he's just one of those people that thinks reading a book makes him an Iaido expert and 'sword master.'

I think what people want Quench is for you to not populate the board with posts full of total fiction whenever you feel like posting.

Re: New Consultation to ban all swords

Some schools do advocate the use of a live blade from the offset, but they're in the minority even in Japan. I don't know what books you've been reading, but most (but not all) believe that really a shinken is an investment for those of 2nd Dan and above. A good sensei will stop you mishandling your...

Re: New Consultation to ban all swords

Quench, I've seen people turn up for Iaido gradings with Bokken. It is an absolute defense for any blade, if it is being used for a martial art that requires it provided that club meets certain criteria, irrespective of where the blade was forged. (The head of Iaido for the BKA actually went to the ...

Re: Which sword? Please help

Yeah it also depends which martial art he does. The truth is the Paul Chen Practical isn't really the best sword for Iaido for example. In that 1, it's not grooved, so the delightful audible feedback when swung correctly is absent, thus in a grading or competition situation, the judges aren't going ...

Re: BUK Shingen Katana

I haven't yet tested this and I'm at work at the moment thus away from my Shingen, but from memory the pegs aren't glued in. For the record it doesn't hold a candle to the PPK. The only thing it's got going for it, is that it's lighter than the PPK, but compared to build quality...it's no where near...
