I suppose, although after 10 years of aiki-ken, my swordwork looked totally barbaric compared to the graceful movements i learned in iai.
I'm now more focussed on kendo and again the cuts are slightly different. Although more akin to seitei style than Iwata's smooth Eishin ryu cuts.

Hey Big Jon, whats going on over at tanith? I've not been able to get on it for ages? Aaannywayyyyy.....i like your point about what Iwata sensei said. I was there buddy, at one of his seminars in Leeds when he proclaimed his intention to rename the art. My sensei in iai and aikijujutsu is one of Iw...

Good find big Jon. Some nice links to Christain Tissiers's regualr aikido outing in Bercy as well.

I really liked the katori ryu stuff, very impressing and interesting.

the tsuba may thin out at the edges but in the centre it's as think as any other tsuba so a switch wouldn't be difficult, we used to customise these quite a bit with vasrious chen tsubas, the winter bamboo was stunning Seconded. Loz is there any way you could get the 29" blade version of the n...

If you can match the sori (curve of the blade) to a Paul chen sword, then a new saya could only cost £30 and save you eons of time.

Of course if you relish the project of refurbing your saya, then go for it, its would be very rewarding i'm sure.

The sword is a fairly light one (in comparison to the PK and so on) as it's designed for a quick draw from the saya. Thus the fairly thin tsuba. As such I think a thicker tsuba would somewhat clash with the theme and feel of the sword. I'm by no means an expert but that's my opinion, as far as an o...

Slightly weird that you'd choose a korean martial art like tkd, but choose the japanese sword art of iaijutsu over the korean version. The Korean Kumdo is equivalent of japanese kendo, very similar. Main differences are in particular teaching styles from school to school. I once attended a seminar o...

lost his arm before he joined aikido, and obviously you DONT need both arms to be able to gain such a grade. lol he's more than capable... and technically its 1, and a half arms. his left arm is gone from the elbow down... that stump has lost all its feeling, and hits like a sledgehammer. his locks...

If you want good self defense and sword work then I would recommend Ninjutsu. However, you really need to make sure you find a reputable instructor as there are a lot of frauds out there. :| My understanding was that he wanted something traditional with swordwork, not chop socky stuff. Personally i...

If you're interested in aikido, then as others have said, give it a shot. Your initial concerns about it taking some time to get into are partially correct. But its still down the individual. Aikido does make use of the bokken, but to a far cruder extent than say iaido or kendo. Aikijutistu is very ...
