Re: Throat Problems

Good advice as always, Moon. I once did a ura-omote shim and did both sides. First time I tried to sheath the sword it was obvious it was way too much. I quickly removed one shim, and all was well. Since the material I used was pretty thin, I think I'll leave my past effort in place for now. It feel...

Re: Throat Problems

Yes, wood would always be the first choice. I was lazy and used cardboard.

Thanks for the info Moon, I always thought the shims would be on the ura-omote, not on the ha-mune.

Trust me to cock it up... :S

Re: Throat Problems

Yeah there ya go. I personally cut the shim to the same size as the habaki, but if it works, it works.

Can't argue with success. :)

Re: Throat Problems

Cut a shim of flat cardboard (not the corrugated stuff), heavy construction paper or anything similar and glue it inside. A single piece should do it, if not glue another piece on the other side. I've had to do it a few times, works a treat.

Happy Birthday Mick!

Did I read those other threads correctly, it's your birthday?

If so, have a great one bud. If not, well, wouldn't be the first time I f00ked up the Lord's Prayer. :trout

Re: My Highlander Swords - Christopher Lamberts Visit

The first movie was awesome. The rest sucked... BADLY. Endgame sucks less than the rest, but still.... My recommendation is: watch the first one, love the first one, forget the rest. If you can get ahold of the TV series, that's a better bet than the crappy movies. PM me and I can help you with that.

Re: Slight worry

If it's as slight as you say, try a polishing paste before you resort to sandpaper. Mother's mag and aluminum cleaner has a very mild abrasive, try that first. If it doesn't remove the rust, try Metal Glo, or Flitz metal polishes for a slightly coarser abrasive. If you succeed with these it might he...

Re: Decision time!

I do it once (or have it done, more accurately) to insure no cracks in the tsuka wood. Once that fact is established I have usually have no further reason to wear down the tsuka.
