Design a throwing knife

Postby Loz » Mon Jul 11, 2011 8:27 am

We're after some new designs, below is what our partners have come up with and I'm after something a little more exciting.

Item should be single piece, up to 8", we'll work out thicknesses required and may slightly move any hole cutouts to improve overall strength if need be. Basic rule is the blade should be heavier than the handle. You'll get 2 free sets and have the throwers named as **your name Throwing Set**, we'll also pay royalties and as we wholesale to the UK and Europe that can end up being a good pay off!

Email any designs through via the website, you can also copyright them and paste them in a reply on here if you prefer.

Nice idea, shame I'm a bad artist lol
I was thinking of something shaped like a chillie pepper with flames nd

Ok il enter this, please don't think less of me for this feeble effort,
if someone wants to make a better attempt with the same theme, feel free and il take no credit lol

I see what your aiming for there mate with colour etc, but the curvature may cause a bit of a boomerang effect, straight symmetrical knives make a much better throwing knife. The holes could always be done in a flame effect though.

Although, there are already lots of similar products out there, would be tough to come up with a better knife, I'll avoid posting links due to forum rules, but you'll see what i mean.

Also, Loz, are you going for coloured knives? or mono tone with etching only?

If you are going for colour, you need to make sure a good metallic paint is used, or after a few bad practice throws, the paint will start chipping / flaking off.

The blade/handle shape can be changed lol but makingthee flame effect a hole would make the front end light, I used to have a throwing knife shaped a bit like that tho and it was good.
Ps I can't find any chilli shaped throwers can u pm me a link please?

While Mel's right for the ideal thrower, we'll take any blade shapes as we can modify shape, thickness and/or weight in order to get what we need for it to rotate uniformly etc, there are some 'crazy' designs out there.

I'm liking the design geordie, we can take that, modify it slightly so that it . . . umm . . . works, but I'm preferring that to any of the ones I've seen so far from the factory.

As for colours, I've not asked about design costs, we can add a single colour cheaply enough but I'm not sure the sophistication of the factory machinery but I doubt there's more than basic press cut CNC

what a great competition ! so ive been whittling on my idea for abit now and heres what ive come up with. I call it the Lion throwing khurki, inspired by the Nepalese weapon but i've put my own little twist on it adding a lion etched onto the handle and with the star shaped holes which if they could do it would be star shaped tribal looking stars i just couldn't draw that lol and tribal pattern running down the blade. Only the point ive marked is sharpend as i believe thats the bit you need to stick but i may be wrong with that lol. Oh and it should have a steel handle just to make it even more different to the others. oh and im sure they can get the tribal pattern on the blade to look better than me its harder to draw that than it looks lol

Lol that's pretty much the shape of the knife I imagined Exept a chilli theme how did you do that?! It's amazing lmao :|

I've had a little re-think of the Chilli design and thought it may be to tricky/expensive to create, so il try another design, once again the artwork is shameful but you can get the general ace of spades idea lol

Image is a little small, bit hard to make out – but if it was me, I’d loose the skulls, they make it look a bit ...*um* tacky (no dis respect intended Geordie m8)

I like the shape tho
