I can honestly state that the furthest thing from my mind when I had 3" of steel stuck through my jacobs into my sh*t chute was smiling :tut:
Though I will admit to having a laugh about it now

too many to really recall....
Tae-Kwon-Do full contact compettion: dislocated hip
re-enactment: broken knuckles, arrow (sharp) through arm
various: sharp rapier in left forearm
heat stroke on numerous occasions for running around in full plate armour
split head open from quarter staff
various cuts, gashes and bruises from various bladed weapons
whats that saying again?
no pain...no gain?

depends on how you train really. if your training close to 100% all out you WILL be injured. you need to train to say 70-80% full on. maybe 100% once a month. but you need to listen to your body. but again depends on how you train. if its for your own protections then train 70-80 regular.
also you technique may be naff. if your constantly injuring your slef.
to be honest i think that bruises, cut, scraps should be almost EVER session.
