Archery

Post by Alex Clary » Wed Aug 11, 2004 5:56 am

I have recently read that someone suggested there should be a thread for archery. So...here it is. NOt for any particular type of archery, just any kind.

Are you sure it would get the same kinda traffic as the blade ones?

Agree.

Modern archery aer the gay tbh. Gimme a longbow and a target anyday, free from counterweights, targetting recticles and other assorted rubbish.

Yup, i agree guys. I have shot compound, recurve with all the gimicks on em and traditional longbow, imho they deskill the art. I love the longbow, mine only pulls 45lb@28", and i shoot from 50 yards normally. I don't use any sighting system other than my instincts. Its the way i always envisaged doing archery, and i love it. i don't do too bad either, a few in the custard!

Nice to see other toxopholy-wotsits around. :-P

Staz......funny you should ask.....and a funny tale it is as well as impressive.

A guy who is my iaido class lent it to me. He is an ex-marine (like me) and only has one arm (one armed swordsman no less).

He is also on his way to Athens to compete in the disabled archery at the olympics and he is a world record holder in archery (not sure what).

I was teaching him one armed aikido the other week. Its weird trying to grab morote dori when uke is only single armed.

Anyways, your original question..... you can get them lots of places, just google archery supplies uk....you'll find enough of em.

I would very much like to take up archery, but from the clubs i have managed to find (via the net, clubs in or near Birmingham) it seems incredibly expensive.

I don't mind the costs of the bow so much, but the membership seems to be the biggest cost.

Plus, i want to do "proper" archery...a longbow was good enough for us English 500yrs ago, so it should be good enough for me now!

But i haven't even found a midlands longbow club.

Frustrating.

Try this
http://www.onesite.co.uk/find/Archery.htm

I'm in Nottingham and i think there are 4 clubs that i know of here.

Hope it helps.

ps.... the club i'm in, let you shoot what you want, longbow (which is what i do), recurve and compound.

Nice link! I've always wanted to do traditional archery but never got round to looking into it.

Blimey theres 2 clubs not far from me! "Pentref Bowman" and "Margam Archers" both look good!

Might have to give them a call! :)
