tsk, tsk,....... kids!

Look for a good iai class m8, or even a kendo class if you and your ronin buddy wanna knock 7 sh*ts outta each other. Kendo classes nearly always practice kendo kata as well, which is where you will learn how to use a 'katana', also use a shoto (kodachi)

If you can't find a local class, why bother using a bokken, just get 2 big sticks and go at it.

thats kind of what me and my friend did. I had a boken, he had the handle from a hoe (minus health hazard) and the boken is great because it doesn't hurt your hands when hit something with it

lol.....aahhhh the fun to be had with sticks etc...
.....go for it guys, its all good.
As far as tutorials go, they really wont do you any justice. But if you insist on learning that way, try and get your hand on some footage, rather than books.

Here is a kendo website, where you can download the video files of the kendo no kata. its excellent for seeing how posture and control of the sword are used effectively.

Have a look as these links for some basic forms, not ideal but will at least give you an idea. As mentioned above a class is the only real way.
