My cool new helm

Post by Big Lazy » Thu Mar 16, 2006 10:23 am

This just arrived (cant say from where though, rules is rules) and I'm well happy with it

The Spangenhelm

Now I was a bit worried that it wouldn't fit my melon sized head but it fits perfectly (H)

Now this baby only cost £105, the reason for which is its not actually made of metal but rather a hybrid polyurethane product. You really cant tell its not metal till you touch it and it is very comfortable to wear as it is light weight and semi flexible.

This stuff is used in all the major movies instead of metal these days and was featured in Gladiator, A Knights Tale, Troy, King Arthur, Alexander and Kingdom of Heaven.

I've been trying to find something to use as a stand but nothing was big enough, other than an old table lamp but it looked dog ugly :S

So...........

I cut up an old sword bag and hung that over it and here's the results :D

Ol' Larny is well pleased (H)

looks fantastic you really cannot tell from the pictures that it is not made of metal and the design is very authentic looking though im not 100% sure from what specific era (north european 8th century is my guess),

looks really cool on you. is it meant to be a replica from a film or something similar? or is it like a historical helm?

Its fantastic stuff, even when you look up real close you'd swear it was metal. The makers also claim it can stand up to re-enactment but I wouldn't like to test it lol
