Looks like either an Odachi or an O-Tachi to me.

hi kentofski they were based on a design called odachi / nodachi used against japanese cavalry?
capable of cutting a man and horse in half if you watch a film called the seven samurai you can see one
actualy being used for that purpose mick

Kinda reminds me of this, though on the site they're selling it on it's referred to as a naginata...

If anything, the one you posted is a Nagamaki not a Naginata, both descriptions are wrong because they were polearms but some were converted to swords with very long tsuka,as can be seen here...

...I believe that they are referred to as Cho-ken.

Oh I'm well aware that what I posted isn't a naginata, just that's what the site described it as. Folded blade too. Close up pics look really sexeh. I'll post em if anyone's interested to see more, but tbh with the upcoming ban it'd be little less than cruel teasing...

I've handled that sword as well, tis quite pleasant, if you can get one, try to, though you'll be cutting it fine now.. But it's quite nice to swing aboot. I didn't get to play much coz I had been awake for something like 23 hours at the time, and it was in class, and it belonged to a 4th Dan, I didn't wanna risk dropping it or something :p

Would be funny if it was only a wakizashi length XD
If the blade ran the whole length of the saya though, how durable would it be? I fear to think what would happen trying to swing it and losing control :/
