Just noticed a Tiger Elite has appeared in the Sale Items section for only £780 (RRP is £1200+?) - Just thought i'd flag this up with you chaps!

I got the Tiger Elite just prior to the sword ban coming into effect (the first version that banned ALL curved swords prior to its revision to allow traditionally forged items) thinking it'd be the last sword i ever bought (So was willing to spend a that bit more!).

I must say its perhaps my favourite sword and I’d well recommend that one of you grab it whilst you can!

(And no, it aint mine lol)

What makes that Shinto so rare by the way? Is it a limited edition or perhaps even a 1-off? or just old?

Its shirasaya version, personally, I prefer it with all the fittings, but there's no accounting for taste.

But wouldn’t that imply they ran out of fixings / housing and just decided to store excess blades in cheap shirasayas and flog them off?

Not sure, I'd imagine the fittings etc are inexpensive to make and Chinese labour is cheap, may be salvaged stock from the factory fire? Or just a novel spin off for collectors?

The Shinto in shirasaya isn't rare Mel' they're primarily aimed at those who prefer to mount the blade in their own koshirae or collectors who'd like to keep a better quality blade in shirasaya for display.
It's my personal opinion that the Shinto is one of the best production katana available in it's price bracket and is often overlooked for some reason, maybe it's the lack of 'bling' which I think makes it look more like the real deal but each to his own I suppose, I only know that I regret selling mine along with a few others just before the first sword ban was introduced. :-x

I only asked as Loz has it listed as "Very rare" on the site and i didn’t really understand why :) Cheers for the clarification though – if you like it that much Mick – go for it before it’s gone? (Assuming they’re not making them anymore?)

I also sold a few pieces before the sword ban to make room for the better pieces I “Panic bought” - really regret doing so now :’(
