Roman Gladius - John Gill Singh

Post by spasm » Thu May 05, 2005 5:59 pm

Hi question for the sword community I’ve been looking to get a roman gladius, I haven’t found that many I like there is one made by John Gill Singh which I’m thinking about getting but know very little about his swords so has anybody had any experience of his swords if so what are they like I want the gladiolus to be functional. :D

I have heard from a very reliable source that they are half tang, welded.
Light cutting if your brave.
Certainly not what would conventionally be called "Functional".
I was very interested in his Norman and Viking swords
until I got the info on the tang.

Always glad to help.
They do indeed seem scarce.
Good luck in finding a functional one.

Darksun if I remember rightly has a custom made Gladius. Perhaps it would be worth asking him about them?

It is very nice indeed, but then again it is a custom made sword - it should be. (H) But it's made form historical records whereas I would prefer (if I was getting one done) a sword paterned on a historical blade but scaled to modern anthropometric data to ensure full functionality wrt it's original design concept. :D 8)
