And the real ones are great fun to fire, no where near the kick of the Enfield smle or no.4.

Hi there liquidator96, you could try your local roofing contractor or diy store for lead strip and wrap the handles A full roll 300mm wide cost about £30 but a contractor will have off cuts. There's also flashband, It also comes backed with pitch like adhesive, pull off the protective cover and start covering your handles. If the lead bothers you, I'm sure you could paint over it and decorate it to taste.
If you want heavy wood try a sawmill but be prepared to do the cleaning up and rounding off because hardwood is usually sold rough sawn. Also be prepared for the shock when told the price of Lignum Vitae, Yew, Oak, etc. Architectural salvage yards might have something that you could use.

In the end I couldn't get the materials I wood have liked,(wood.... get it :> ), so I settled for a 1.25 inch broom handle with brass upholstery pins for weight.
Not as heavy as I like, but there Ok, very quick & quite, have a gander,

My thanks for everyone's input, I appreciate you time and help, cheers, Martin.

Not bad at all! Nice little custom job ;) if the weight really bothers you, you can always drill a large hole in and fit a few 1 penny pieces in then epoxy the hole closed

your not wrong they made some nasty looking trench weapons relly shows how brutal it was in ww1. Yes thats a real one it isnt mine however. Im getting there mainly ww1 and ww2 modern ones do nothing for me not a fan of the bullpup design.

I like the SA80 MkII, hate the cheap, generic M4/M16, or whatever they are calling this years model.
My favourite WWI weapons,(at least I think there WWI :S ), is the Webly .445 pistol, I can't remember the model No. & the Enfield Mk3, at least I think it's that one.
You can't beat a good, accurate bolt action rifle, I don't care what they say about modern sniper rifles.
May I enquire as to what are you top WWI & WWII weapons?, Martin. :D
