Season's Greetings
Season's Greetings from across the pond!!
I know it is a couple of weeks early but I see the forum is a bit dead lately and maybe this will start something.
BTW, I've heard on your side of the pond you're a bit PC, hence the season's greetings.
For my friends Mick and Moon, I wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year!
To the members of this forum.
This is one of the last sword forums still around, don't let it die.
Keep it alive!
Once these things are gone, they are gone forever.
The sword fad may be dead (again!) but there are always those whose interest and participation will never die.
It is the young and the new to the interest of the sword who will suffer if the knowledge of sword never learned.
A true tragedy.

Re: Season's Greetings
Seasons greetings to all too. Sadly with the invention of social media and its ease of access it would seem that forums as we know them have pretty much all died. Shame really, but we have so many cool memories of this place, and I have made many a good friend since starting on here back in 2003. Love to all.
Pimp or die baby!

Re: Season's Greetings
Social media?
What is that?
Some sort of English thing or something?
Just joking.
Although I don't use it myself (not joking)
This Old dog has difficulties with new tricks.
Mick,
Just talked to Bob and Goose, both are doing well and Bob is just as irrepressible as ever.

Re: Season's Greetings
Truth of the matter is,
Social media is destroying society as we "used" to know it.
Unless you are under 20 or so.
People are becoming mindless automons right out of a science fiction movie.
Note I didn't say book as no one reads anymore.
I remember as a kid having to read books like Fahrenheit 451 and Animal Farm warning of what might happen in the future.
They couldn't even imagine back then, what is happening now.
I remember a old Doctor Who TV show where a alien was giving headphones to everyone to mind control them.
We have that now (without the alien), with people walking around endlessly babbling about nothing, all their waking hours on their cellphones.
If I could set off a neutron bomb disabling all cell phones in the U.S., our suicide rate would skyrocket to new levels.
I have not yet seen a female under 30, driving a vehicle while not talking on some sort of audio device (phone?).
Books.
All of our information on things non-modern, history and such comes from books.
The internet is a terrible source for any accurate information. As it can be changed with a keystroke!
Where do you think our modern authorities knowledge comes from? They weren't born with it!
They either learned from books or someone else who read the books.
I myself have close to 400 books on military history and weapons.
I also have another 200 plus books on the martial arts and martial arts weapons, many on the Japanese sword and sword arts.
Quite a few in both categories are out of print now.
For the learning of weapons information and history, nothing beats a book.
Way back when I was a new black belt, all my instructors were embarrassed when I always was more knowledgeable than them.
The true masters weren't embarrassed but rather impressed.
Never underestimate the value of books and reading!
