new blade being commisioned by me.

Post by wtf? » Sun Mar 05, 2006 2:52 pm

thought people might be interested.... trying to get a new blade made up. a cable welded blade, with a spring-like temper. their made to be supremely strong. the blade is meant to be a "exact" replica of this blade.

the tsuba will be this one....

with black same, and black tsuka ito... same menuki...

same saya...

this Habaki...

but in brass, powder coated in black, and the file marks added afterwards, and a lot deeper to give a 2 tone effect. kinda like streaking rain.

with Fuchi and Kashira to be decided on.

actually... better idea of the habaki would be mixing these 2 concepts....

with the above image.... think "driving rain, or hail against a midnight sky"

the blade will take ages for me to aquire. the wait for the smiths blades is about 8 months. plus a month to another company to get the habaki fitted. and then im going to have to build, and wrap the tsuka. so 12 months at a guess.

the blade alone will cost about $4000 then i'll size it for the tsuka. away to the habaki, then to the polishers. not sure about any costs past the blade untill its finally made, and ive decided on specifics.

All the parts you've chosen to put on it are beautiful seperate, I can't wait to see what they look like together.

9 - 11 month wait for mine...... and that's in Skye.....

not really a distance thing... more of a "backlog of orders" thing Iwould imagine.

its coming from a smith in Oregon. the wait is due to his backlog of requests. and yes i will be cutting with it, and everything else training related.
Theres no reason to get such a nice blade made up, if your not going to use it.

I'm convinced that if Wraith won £10 million on the 'Lotto' and bought a Masamune,he'd have it fitted with genuine antique Koshirae and be the first documented person to 'test cut' one. :D
