Viking Sword - making of

Post by Mellony » Wed Sep 14, 2011 9:04 pm

This is one of the best vids of smithin' ive seen in a long time, shows everything from forging the pattern / softer core, adding harder folded edge, all the way through to normalization & tempering, not to mention its a stunning result and puts my godfred to shame.....

Stunning blade, but he cheated! Vikings didn't have flash welders and acid baths lol

Shame, videos no longer found. I've been looking for something online to show original sword making techniques, but the ones I've found tend to use modern equipment.

I know they did this on Time Team once, but that was an Anglo-Saxon sword, not Viking, anyway. :)

You'll find that the techniques are very similar between vikings and Anglo Saxon techniques, they both used pattern welding and the tangs are very similar.
I'm sure you can find a video on YouTube.
