Is my knife legal in the UK

Postby Narcomancer » Sun May 16, 2010 12:27 am

The Blade in question is this one:

United Cutlery: Black Ronin Battle Knife

I have familiarized myself with the law and have found the definition of "knuckle-duster" knives to be a bit lacking. My question is, would any legal authority declare my knife a knuckle-duster? It is to be used only with a decorative purpose as a wall-hanger and not carried in public.

Thanks in advance!

Certainly HMRC confiscate knives like this all the time using a law mentioning another law which tracks back to the knuckle duster description in the criminal justice act 1989 offensive weapons, but then HMRC overstep their authority at every possible turn with this legislation. A magistrates court (where you would end up if you disagree with HMRC) would certainly not apply the same definition to this item in my humble, and often sought, opinion.

Keep it in your house out of public view and you'll never have a problem. I just wish the law would stop making the weapons themselves illegal and start paying more attention to the people they find holding them.

They're really trying to 'crack down' on all of the knife crime in the UK now, they don't seem to appreciate that at the end of the day people can get hold of a cooking knife with no trouble at all and do just as much damage as with a proper one. They're fighting a losing battle and wasting our tax money in doing it
