antique restorations

Postby madman55000 » Fri Aug 15, 2008 5:55 pm

i have recently purchased an antque kukri and whilst the weapon itself is fine (albeit with a little rust which i can deal with) the scabard is cracked and even split in places.
the scabard consisists of wood with a leather covering however i am not sure if it is wood or a result of exposed leather deteriorating over time and resembling wood....
does anybody have any ideas on how to restore this piece? i have no experiance with working with leather and am unable to afford the cost of hiring an expert so its gonna have to be a DIY job!
all suggestions much apreciated

You have email. ;)
Best of luck.
