White Oak Daito heavier than a katana?

Post by MrOsborn » Sun Sep 20, 2009 12:17 am

Its been years since I held a katana but I recently bought the oak daito and it felt a little heavy to me, and there also appears to be a discrepancy between the listed weights of Chen's functional swords and the daito so it's difficult to make a comparison from the site. Assuming I'm reading it right.

Or maybe it's because I was a little surprised by how sturdy it was, because I don't think the pic really did it justice. It feels solid and looks great.

The one at the very top...

It doesn't matter though. I've just realised the rediculously stupid error I made. The site's information is fine and both items appear to be of similar weight.

It shouldn't be called a daito at all, daito means 'long sword' as in katana or tachi and that's not a real sword it's a bokken, 'wooden sword'.
That's why I asked which daito you were referring to. ;)

Aah, thanks. I'm aware that it's a bokken but I'm a little unfamiliar with these other names. They could mean anything for all I know.
