Chinese Hook Swords

Postby Clavdius » Mon Dec 30, 2013 10:30 am

Hi Y'all - my first time here

I am a relatively new collector of weapons of the bladed persuasion and am looking for a pair of good quality Chinese Hook swords for the UK

Any suggestions would be welcome- am having problems sourcing them

Thanks in advance :GGG

I've never come across these in the UK & I dont "think" CAS or KOTO manufacture them either, but for a 100% answer you'd be best contacting BUK directly.

I suspect however that the "hook" would cause the sword to fall into the "Curved blade" category, which i'm afraid would place it in the sights of the "The Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons)(Amendment) Order 2008"

Here is a little more information on this:

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukdsi/200 ... /article/2

Specifically:

a sword with a curved blade of 50 centimeters or over in length; and for the purposes of this sub-paragraph, the length of the blade shall be the straight line distance from the top of the handle to the tip of the blade.”.

And again a few months later:

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2008 ... cle/2/made

to show that the weapon in question was made before 1954 or was made at any other time according to traditional methods of making swords by hand.”.

So dont hold your breath unless you can find one that’s been made in the “Traditional method”.

Keep us posted!
Semper cogitatio.

I've seen some unsharpend practice ones for sale before, on plenty of martial arts sites operating out of this country so I don't see why BUK shouldn't be able to get you a pair of unsharped tiger hooks if thats acceptable.

This is another topic that has only just appeared, looking at the dates, it was made a while back?

Anyone else have red coloured topics but it says nothing is unread or new? :S
