Nodachi

Hi,

I made a purchase from an old man in scotland around 10 years ago. This was a rare nodachi (folded) absolutely amazing piece £700 at the time when folded blades were rare (unlike today!). This has premium parts such as cotton sageo and wrap. It has aged meguki and a newish tsuba. There is a good visible grain from the folding and the tip is widened i presume for weight to add to cutting momentum. I do not have a good knowledge of swords - just buy what looks nice so have no knowledge of the blade itself or origins. Any ideas on what this is? Looking to sell/trade it. I have no idea on its value now though I bought it for £700 10 years ago. I'll try to upload pictures when I figure that out!

Cheers,

Jag

Private selling is not allowed on this site sorry, so my best advice is to get it looked at by a professional.

Hi Lone wolf,

I tried using links on a different forum but for some reason my post isn't uploading! Is there anyway to post them up here directly?

Anyway I believe blades-uk will have pics up soon once I send it through to them.

Cheers,

Jag

first 5 posts by new users need to be checked before being posted to end a spate of spam we had to deal with recently, sometimes it will take a few days for us to find time.

The only thing I can state about this sword with any certainty is that it was not made in Japan.

Hi Moon,

Thanks for the input how were you able to deduce that?

The hada is all wrong, it's far too 'loose' and exaggerated, akin to what is commonly but mistakenly called 'Damascus' these days, Japanese hada in this particular style (Mokume) is much tighter and more subdued.
There doesn't appear to be a hamon but if one is present, there is more activity in a cemetery at midnight...

Can you post a pic of the kissaki please, I'll be more than surprised if there's a genuine yokote line and/or any indication of boshi but it won't alter my opinion that the blade is not Japanese if there is...sorry.

Thanks for the pics :D

my modest amateur eyes say thats not old at all, just looks like patten folded steel with a crane tsuba and a standard looking bit of sageo. Unusual lengh tho
