Smelly brass/copper

Post by Geordie Ross » Sat Jun 09, 2012 4:27 pm

Hi people, was wondering if anyone else hates the smell of coppery brassy smell you get when your skin touches the metal, also is their any way to stop the smell other than wearing rubber gloves?
Cheers. Ross

Lol it's not bacterial it's ammonia reacting with the metal from the uric acid in our skin apparently, it smells really strong and smells bad :|

It may be helpful if we knew exactly how your hands are coming into contact with the brass Ross...is it from a handle, guard or what mate?

EDIT:
If this bloody anti-bot thing asks if I'm human or requires me to say "Hello" before my post is sent just one more time, I swear I'm gonna kill it with my bare hands - Hell, I've been here long enough for it to know me by now.

I was gonna suggest a clear lacquer Ross but if it's from menuki and other fittings close to materials which aren't lacquer friendly, that's out the window. :|

I wonder what would happen if I typed No when asked 'Are you human' or Goodbye instead of 'Hello'? :D

EDIT:
OFFS...it's done it again and I was only here a short while ago.

Ha, seconded

But yea, the brass thing, it's not the brass per say, its the uric acid (and other crap) in your skin that reacts with any oxide particles - no way to avoid it, better dig your rubber gloves out :p

I don't like the smell either Mel' but I can live with it - it's more pleasant than wearing rubber gloves that make your hands sweat like a blind lesbian in a fishmonger's shop. :D

At the "say hello" I once wrote No and it told me to sod off, at the "are you human?" I've put maybe and not sure before and it's told me to sod off.

Frankly I don't understand how it can stop bots if it can only take such simple direct responses of Yes and Hello. even yep doesn't cut it.

Oh and try washing your hands after touching them whats so hard about that? if you don't like having metal stinking hands never take up guitar, even washing doesn't get rid of the small of a new set of strings.

even if I washed my hands with turpentine and 50 grit sand paper it wouldn't remove the smell lol
