Questions regarding current Law

Post by Tracer » Fri Aug 24, 2012 6:56 pm

Hi everyone,

I would like some advice .
About two years ago , I ordered and paid for a Kit Rae Mithrodin Gold Edition sword from a USA website.

The sword arrived in the UK but I was sent a letter from the home office saying it was withheld due to the current law.
I called them and was told about the 50 cm law etc.

I did not check the exact lenght of the weapon at the time but figured it must have been over 50 since they stopped it.
But I am looking to buy more fantasy weapons again and I took a look at the same weapon

http://www.ioffer.com/i/kit-rae-mithrod ... -139435111

It says ' 23 3/4" blade. 42 3/4" overall '

And from reading on : http://ukbladesforum.co.uk/index.php/kn ... d-the-law-
"The measurement is to be taken from the tip of the blade to the top of the handle (where the blade meets the handle) in a straight line NOT following the curve of the blade."

I dont understand why they stopped my sword? I lost quite abit of money here, do you think it is worth me trying to get in touch with them and fight it even after so long ? Did they wrongly cease the weapon?
Should I try buying another one? Its a really cool sword which I really wanted.

I also have another question regarding battle axes, I cant find any exact law on them.

Are they allowed in the UK ? the one I am looking at is : http://kitrae.net/fantasy/kr22-black_legion.html

Thank you in advanced for your help.

Not sure, it's best to avoid all curved swords over 50 cm, but the axe is legal

But this blade was not 50 cm, maybe they took the measurement wrongly and went from bottom of handle till end of blade? but the law says the blade lenght is from tip till it meets the handle..

The blade is over 50cm at 23¾".

50cm = 19.6850394"...you've lost your money. :|

The blade is 23¾ inches
It's the length of the blade from tip to handle in centimetres which determines the legality and your sword's blade length at 50cm = 19.6850394 inches means the blade is approx 4 inches over the legal limit and it was probably destroyed shortly after you failed to appeal the notice of it's seizure within the required time limit and is now part of a rusting 4X4 Wankmobile made in Mongolia which is lying on the side of a track in some remote part of Africa.

youve still got a thing about this 42 inches thing forget the handle (its the leanght of the blade only which makes it illeagle) if the blade itself from tip to hand guard is over 50cm(19.65 ins)give or take a mm thats what makes it illeagle it can have a ten foot handle making it nearly 12 foot but as i and the others have told you if the blade itself is over the 50cm mark you lucked out
